Claudia Sheinbaum, the former mayor of Mexico City, has been chosen as the ruling party's presidential candidate, making her the front-runner to become Mexico's first female president. Sheinbaum, a close ally of current President Lopez Obrador, won in five party surveys against her main rival, former Foreign Affairs Secretary Marcelo Ebrard. Sheinbaum's candidacy gives her a significant advantage in the June presidential election.
