An Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM), claimed to have seized the Niafounke camp in Mali's north using a suicide-bomb vehicle. The Malian army repulsed attacks on bases in the Timbuktu region. JNIM also hit the Goundam army camp with mortar fire. Tens of soldiers were killed or wounded in the battle, with two captured. JNIM released photos of captured vehicles, weapons, and ammunition. The situation in Mali remains volatile due to the presence of various armed groups.
